Austin Community College becomes first community college in Texas to use 100% renewable energy

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Community College (ACC) is making major strides toward going green. Two ACC campuses now use 100% clean, renewable energy, according to the college. The switch to clean energy at the ACC campuses in Round Rock and Elgin makes ACC the first community college in Texas to have campuses that use entirely wind and solar…

It’s nice to have some good news for a change. With solar energy systems installed on eight campuses, ACC was already a leader within Texas for renewable energy and sustainability. Now, by moving two of its campuses completely off of fossil fuels, ACC is significantly reducing its carbon footprint and helping ensure a safer, more livable climate for our community.

The Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled solar tree — installed at the CSIR-CMERI Residential Colony in Durgapur — has an installed capacity of more…

Energy On The Edge

Smart Energy is a way of dealing with electrical power that will be, by every measure, poorer than today. We can look to California to see what this means. The cost of power is growing even as planned rolling outages affect every customer. Distributed energy resources make it more complex to solve power distribution to provide quality…

Siemens gets ready to spin off its energy business, emphasizing a need for ‘focus’

Getting a charge out of electric vehicles

Starting this fall, SUNY Cortland offers campus community members the option to recharge the battery on their personal electric vehicles (EVs) on campus for a small fee while they go about their daily activities. New charging stations for the commuter’s passenger vehicles were installed in late August at four locations: behind DeGroat…

Renewables Are Primed for Growth in Asia

Renewable-energy operators are planning for further growth in Asia despite a falloff in subsidies, betting energy demand will keep rising. In China, government support has driven a rapid buildup and turned the country into the world’s largest producer of renewable energy. That stimulus is drying up, putting the industry at risk. Solar-energy…

Amid the pandemic, there’s been no slowdown in activity.

How Government Support Can Work Against Microgrids

Distributed energy resources make up the bulk of any microgrid. So incentives for DERs will mean more microgrids, right? Not necessarily, says Peter Asmus, research director at Guidehouse, who explains his new research on DERs in microgrids. As a bonus, Asmus also offers insight into Covid-19’s impact on the microgrid market…

CleanSpark Announces Microgrid Software Deployment in Costa Rica

Fossil fuels still get more investment than renewable energy

UN General-Secretary Antonio Guterres says G20 recovery packages are committing twice as much money to fossil fuels than renewable energy sources. Guterres made the point last week while delivering the 19th Darbari Seth Memorial Lecture, The Rise of Renewables: Shining a Light on a Sustainable Future. He referenced information released by…

This year, researchers in the United States concluded that people living in regions with high levels of air pollution are more likely to die from COVID-19. If fossil fuel emissions were eliminated, overall life expectancy could rise by more than 20 months, avoiding 5.5 million deaths per year, worldwide. Investing in fossil fuels means more death and illness and rising health care costs. It is, simply put, a human disaster and bad economics.

UN General-Secretary Antonio Guterres
